FedDev invests in QVIL’s quantum sensing research

Canada is making a major investment in regional economic resilience and defence innovation.

Quantum Valley Ideas Laboratories was pleased to be recognized as part of last week’s announcement by Minister Evan Solomon, MP Bardish Chagger, and Parliamentary Secretary Tim Louis. The announcement outlined nearly $40.5M in new investments through the Regional Tariff Response Initiative and the Regional Defence Investment Initiative.

QVIL’s contribution will support a $20M project to develop and commercialize quantum-enhanced radar technology, establish Canada’s first atomic vapour cell manufacturing hub, and next-generation quantum sensors, with the aim of strengthening the country’s defence innovation capabilities.

Canada’s ability to translate advanced research into real-world capability depends on strong collaboration between government, research institutions, and industry. Today’s announcement reinforces the importance of building those connections across the regional innovation ecosystem, from advanced manufacturing to defence and quantum technologies.
